The initial water damage and its results are called primary damage. Primary damage can cause various damaging effects from delamination, discoloration, warping, cracking, swelling and splitting of building materials and contents.
What is harder to visualize is the secondary damage as the moisture changes form from liquid to vapor, water evaporates and humidity (which is the amount of water vapor in the air) increases causing vapor pressure. Vapor pressure is the force vapors exert on its surrounding environment. Secondary damage causes the extent of the loss to increase with each passing hour as vapor reforms into condensation to be absorbed into porous materials, creating damage that could have been prevented in ceilings, walls and contents.
Water can travel vertically or horizontally and the route that it chooses may effect unexpected areas, which may require detailed evaluation. That is why; our experienced staff utilizes state-of-the-art, highly accurate instruments to measure the moisture in the air, structure and the contents in conjunction with our TIC (thermal imaging camera) for fast , non-evasive moisture detection.
